Updated Wedding To-Do List!

I’ve been spending a little time each weekend doing some wedding arts and crafts.  Even though the items I’ve “crossed off” are not fully indicative of the work I’ve done (I’ve got several mock-ups and parts-of-projects in the works), I’m still excited to start getting things done!!

  • Carnation Pomanders for the aisle and altar
  • Wedding wands for the ceremony (instead of rice/flower petals, etc.)
  • Table Numbers
  • Seating Chart (escort cards for 150 people?  no thanks.)
  • “the Fellows” sign for our sweetheart table
  • “Here comes the bride” sign for the ring bearer
  • Centerpiece flower boxes-well, Mark is making these, but I’m going to dress ’em up with ribbon
  • Card box
  • Wedding Programs
  • Invitations-again, someone else is designing, but I’m printing, organizing and assembling!
  • Hangers for Bridesmaids
  • Cake Toppers
  • Fun “Tree” for the groomsmen (with mini-shots, cigars, etc.)
  • Other fun “signage” (still not entirely sure what we need!)

Next up: the “Fellows” Sign and getting to work on the table numbers!  My goal is to get all of the things that take up room finished (ie the pomanders and table numbers) so we can take them to SD during the Christmas trip–and save room for the actual wedding trip!

A lot on my plate!

The last couple of weeks have been…busy.
I’ve been traveling for work a LOT lately (DC last week, Milwaukee next week and a week of selection in a TBD location a couple of weeks after that.  In between, I’ve got baby showers and book clubs and girls nights and cocktail receptions/happy hours.  We have new parents to deliver casserole to, football parties to host and attend, and brunches already scheduled.  We have a lawn to finish, house to clean, and wedding projects just sitting around, begging for attention.

With so much going on, I have to step back and take a moment to be grateful instead of overwhelmed.  I need to be grateful that I have so many friends that want to hang out with me, grateful that my work is allowing me to see so many new parts of the country, and grateful that I have the chance to make NEW friends and have new experiences.  Our life in Denver is far from the typical loneliness that often accompanies a move to a new city, and while it is a lot to keep up with, I am so much happier here than I was in Phoenix.

It also means that I need to make sure the time I do have for myself is spent really recharging and doing things that I need to help me feel like me.  I’m still trying to figure out what these things are, but so far they include working out, watching TV, and cooking (on the weekends only!)  I still want to push myself to try new things and find new ways to relax and unwind, but for now, I’m pretty happy with where things are at.  And that is the first time I can honestly say that in a very long time.  Is everything perfect? Of course not–and it never will be.  But I am so grateful for the life I have, and know that it will only continue to improve!

busy week!

Wow.  It has been one heck-of-a week.  In the last 7 days, we have:

Gone to our first Red Rocks Concert together.  And what a Doozy!  It was Mumford and Sons, we were in like, the 16th row, with two great friends.  Confetti was released, dancing ensued, and an overall super fun, uplifting and carefree experience!

Joined a softball league–well, Scott did.  Since we’ve been here, Scott hasn’t really had a chance to reconnect with many of his friends, and this is a big change coming from Phoenix, were he had SEVERAL really good friends int he area.  When we got the text on Tuesday (from Abby’s husband Nick) asking if he wanted to join the league, he jumped at the chance.  Even though they lost terribly (mercy rule, anyone?), he still had fun hanging out with a group of guys for a few hours.  I’m glad he has the chance to make new friends, be athletic, and just RELAX at least one night a week!

Saw a Padres Game.  Well, I suppose it was technically a “rockies” game–but we went to see the Padres.  And they won!  We had phenomenal seats (row 10!) for free, courtesy of our friend Nick and Abby, who ALSO came with us.

Went to Tour De Fat–in the Motherland.  Being in Fort Collins this year was crazy–SO many costumes! 🙂  So much to see and do!  It was definitely WAY bigger than Phoenix, and even though this was just our “feeler” year, we still had tons of fun, drank some good beer, and have a good idea of what to expect next year.

Checked out the “Taste of Colorado”.  While this was fun, it was the most “underwhelming” experience of the weekend.  It’s a great idea–tons of food booths in Civic Center Park.  BUT, it was too busy, too overpriced (for food I would consider average) and FAR too crowded.  It was nice to get out and have a variety of food samples, but I don’t know that we’ll be attending in future years.

This week promises to be even busier!  After running errands (and working-ew) on our day off today, we’ve got two days of work before we head off to DC for the weekend!  So excited to meet up with old friends, see some great sites, and eat some delicious food.  It is weeks like this I am SO HAPPY we moved here, and feel like things are in such a better place–we are living, having fun, and just enjoying ourselves so much 🙂
